”Too often in the everyday life of workplaces emotions have been considered as a sign for weakness, soft skills, unmeasurable and purely something fluffy,” writes researcher Henrika Anttila.

Fortunately, a change is on its way: in many organizations, socio-emotional skills are more and more seen as key competences.

There is still one thing we with the machines 10–0: social interaction.

”As the AI and automatisation are rapidly developing further, the most valuable human-centric work requires cognitive skills,” Anttila says. Computers might beat us in many skills and drills, but there is still one thing where we win the machines 10–0: social interaction.

Leadership is a lot about emotions: A great leader understands their employees and is able to support them through difficult emotions. Also as a leader, you have to face feelings of disappointment, failing and frustration. Learning leadership skills is closely tied to emotions, too: joy of understanding and succeeding are important motivators.

Emotions and Learning is one of the main topics of Dare to Learn 2018. This visionary event is not a new pocket full of how-to-teach-tricks, but a place to reflect learning, think about what it is and could be and how it should be changed. Other big themes in Dare to Learn 2018 are self-directed learning and learning for sustainability.

We are thrilled to be part of the event as one of the partners.

”We are absolutely thrilled to be part of Dare to Learn as one of the partners, and we are really looking forward to hear keynote speeches and to participate in several workshops,” tells Viking Theories' Marketing Director Sirkku Jauhiainen.

”New ways of learning, life-long learning, sustainability and self-directed learning are important themes, and we are delighted by the increasing attention on these topics nowadays.”
